Lincoln County Master Gardeners Minutes

The quarterly meeting of the Lincoln County Master Gardeners was held January 10, 2005 at St. Francis Parish Center.  Twenty four members were present.

Jimminette Phillips, our newly elected president, started the meeting with basic instructions on how to calculate volunteer hours.

The next order of business was getting committees established.  The projects that need committees are:

1.        Set up for meetings—Volunteers need to sign up.

2.      Communication committee.

3.      Tree nursery—Sign up for work schedules.  Christy Hyman volunteered to put in a drip irrigation system.

4.     Newsletter—Beck Corkern has volunteered to do these.

5.      Great American Clean-up—Jane Kees has been in charge of this project for the last two years, and has done a great job.  She will head this project again this year, but she does need help with it.

6.     Crystal Springs Field Day—Perry will be in charge of this.

7.      Help maintain Kid’s Kingdom—A sign up sheet was passed around.  Everyone interested in helping with this project signed up.

8.      Garden extravaganza—This is a large project so we will need for everyone to help.  Clear your calendars now.

9.     Publicity—Becky Corkern will head this committee.

10.  Scrapbook—Cathy Ivy is keeping this current.

11.     Education hours—Billie Smith will keep everyone informed on when and where you can get your educational hours.

12.   Digitize camellia slides—Not a confirmed project yet.

13.   Children’s discovery garden—Develop a children’s discovery garden possibly at Kid’s Kingdom.  All members can help with this.  Terry Reid will also be consulted.

14.   Easthaven cemetery—Develop a garden area. Dave Pace will help us with the plans.  This can also possibly be a good education opportunity if we can get someone to give a lecture on how to beautify cemeteries.

15.   MSA Environmental club—Jane Kees will be in charge of this committee.

16.   Beautification issues—Homer Richardson will go before the Board of Aldermen and Supervisors to voice our views on how to make Brookhaven a Homeseeker’s Paradise.

17.    Water committee—Volunteers are needed to help keep the camellias downtown watered.
